Chapter 1(September)

Read all of chapter 1, do all of the practices, and exercises.  Vocab should be defined to count as your notes for chapter 1.  Upload the vocab list, and define at least 5 words for every section.  Vocab can be typed or written out.

Chapter 2(October)

Read the sections and do all of the practices. 

1.  The image needed for Computer Virus is found in the "Practice Data Files" folder that I put on your computer.  You will need to copy it and put it in the same folder as the ComputerVirus one though to make it work.

Skip the last practice Java Applet. 

After you are done with the practices do exercises 1-8.

1. 2.  Exercise 2 when this question says that it wants at least three rules in a style sheet.  It wants three codes in the embedded style sheet between the head tags that changes the color, alignment, and size of three different fonts. 
   3.  In exercise 3 be sure to write your tags with a space between the less then sign and the actual tag and add another space before the greater then sign so as it can appear on the webpage:  for example < a >

 Chapter 3(November) Test 11/20 and/or 11/21

Read the sections and do all of the practices.  Skip practice 5 of 8

After you are done with the practices continue to do exercises 1-7.

1. 1.  I am seeing a lot of people with their websites in yellow folders, as opposed to the appropriate green folders.  This tells me that you are creating your webpages by going to File new Folder.  Instead of doing that please go to Site new Site.  This in turn will make the folders you need to hold your work as well as tell dreamweaver program that that folder contains websites. 
2. 2.  In about 3 websites there are external links.  These websites are Computer Ergonomics, Sharks, and E-Commerce.  For these external links the book asks you to have them open up in a new window.  To do this while you are making the links as you ususally do, go to target and drag down to _blank.

Chapter 4(November/December) Test December 20 and/or 21

Read the sections and do all of the practices.  Practices 1-4 are to be done for your own benefit.  I will not be checking them.

Practice 5: In the files panel over on the right click on the plus signs Desktop, Z:/, Practice Data Files.  Once in the practice data files you will see the pasta.gif that the book wants you to work with.

After you are done with the practices continue on to do all of the exercises. You will need to do exercises 1-8  you can skip number 9

Portfolio

Students in my class should begin to think about making a portfolio.  Question 8 from chapter 4 is a perfect example of the assignments I want included in this portfolio.  Basically I am looking for any websites that you make 100% on your own. 

Team/Club website Due June 2 and/or 3

For the next two quarters you will be making, and upkeeping websites for the Watertown website.  Clubs and teams were already passed out.  It will be your responsibility to take everything we learn in this class and make a professional looking webpage for the school. For more details please go to this link Initial handout.  The rubric for this assignment can be found here. Rubric The journal requirements are up on the board at the front of the room. They can also be found here. Journal  Reminder all work should be your own.  Any sign of plagerism will result in an automatic failure for the assignment.

Chapter 5 (January/February) Test February 26 and/or 27
Read the sections and do all of the practices

In the exercise section you will do 1 through 7.  Some of the info you may need may be in the data files on the desktop.  Go to the desktop => datafiles => dreamweaver and then to either exercise or practice data files.  If Cactus does not have any paragraphs on the index page go to the exercise datafiles on the desktop open up Cactus Index and copy the two paragraphs and place them into your document, in the 2nd column after the images of the cactus. Questions 6, 8 and 9 are all very similar.  You only need to do one webpage though.  This webpage should however include all of the elements asked for in questions 6, 8 and 9.  In number 8 it says use 4 different nav bars for the 4 different pages, this contradicts everything we've done so far so make only one navbar and copy it 4 times.  This webpage would be a good example to use for your portfolio. 

After you are done with your exercises you have one worksheet problem the following link will tell you what you need to do. Worksheet  When you get to this stage be sure to get files from me that you will need to use to do this particular problem

Chapter 6 (March) Test April 1 and/or 2

Do all of the practices, exercises and yes the questions found between the practices and the exercises.  Spend extra special care on coffee, it is somewhat difficult. 

Some of the info you may need may be in the data files on the desktop.  Go to the desktop => datafiles => dreamweaver and then to either exercise or practice data files. Like the Africa.txt file should be there.

Part 7 of 7.  To do the absolute positioning it is somewhat different then in the book.   The first part about positioning is basically the same, just double check that you put the 30 and the 400 in the right spot.  Don't assume that the top and the left are in the exact same position as in the book.  Now for the Div tag.  I want you to try it on your own first before you come to me for help.  Click once in the first row right before the Global Bean Icon. Go to insert => Tags =>HTML Tags drag down to div and click on insert.  When the menu pops up go to Style Sheet/Accesibility and under ID type in #coffeemap and then OK.  Close the tag window, and drag the coffeemap picture from the images folder to the first row.  The picture will not be in the correct place because the code for the image is not between the div tags.  Click once on the picture, go to split screen where you can see both the code and the design.  cut the highlighted url for the picture cut it and paste it between the two div tags.

When applying any and all new rules please remember to put a period before items like .topnavbar, .localnavbar, .bttrail

When applying the footer style to library item at the bottom.  Do not remove the link.  Simply click once before the actual library item and then apply the footer rules to it. 

The local navbar is the three items that are over on the left of your screen.  In that long column.  To apply the local navbar it is a little tricky.  Once again go to split screen.  Highlight the first entry in the local navbar to get to the right spot.  Click once inside the first tag after the "120"  and then apply localnavbar. 

The breadcrumb trail is the row right below the topnavbar it tells the user how you got to that particular webpage.

 Chapter 7 (April/May) Test May 23/24

Do all of the practices, exercises and yes the questions found between the practices and the exercises.  Exercises 6 and 8 will be combined again like we did in chapter 5.  The worksheets Ms. Smith gave will be counted as extra credit.

  Practice 4 Purple Ball is a little tricky to open. 
Open Flash and then shrink it so that you can also see the desktop.  
On the desktop go to Data Files => Dreamweaver => Practice Data Files. 
Adjust the two viewers so that you can see both equally well. 
Drag Purple Ball on to the flash screen and it should open.
When saving be sure to go to save as and go to the Z drive.

 

 Practice 7  converting to a symbol is not under modify, it is found under insert in the top menu

 

To do HOLA! or Cat Toys Inc
First type them out as requested.  
Break them apart as suggested and under modify distribute to layers, delete the first layer 
Insert Key tags at 20 for each and every letter for example HOLA you will insert 5 key tags and Cat Toys 10 key tags
Look at the first layer you should see the Letter H.  Click under the number one for H, and then move the H off of the screen.
Click one the one for O and then move it off of the screen.
Click on the one for L, A and ! and move them off of the screen
Then click somewhere in the middle of 1 and 20 for each letter and go to tween and select motion. 
        You know if you are doing this part right if you see the all letters moving toward the right position at this point.
To add sound make sure you import the sound first, then click on the time frame for the letter H. Go down to the properties menu find sound and drag down to see Hola

 Chapter 8 (May/June)

In the practices you will need to go up to BELLUR on pages 321-325.  Keep in mind you do not have to do anything that deals with Validating.

In the exercises portion you will need to do exercises 1 through 5
